Central Park is a staple for anyone in New York City. Lucky for us at MMC, we are just a short walk away from the 72nd Street entrance which holds hidden treasures for you to check out. Plan your next study sesh, coffee chat, or lunch spot in an oasis of green in our concrete jungle.
- Le Pain Quotidien
Within the entrance located on 72nd and Fifth Avenue, there is a little cafe by the pond called Le Pain Quotidien. A full-service cafe complete with breakfast and lunch menu as well as pastries that taste just as good as they look. The spot has tables where you can sit down and order as you watch people go by on their daily stroll, or play a game of fetch with their dog. But if you would like to get your goods to go, they offer that as well. The tables certainly fill up on a sunny day, but with benches lining the park, you are guaranteed a good seat no matter what.
- Bethesda Fountain
An iconic landmark in the ark is the Bethesda Fountain. The sculpture on top of the twenty-six-foot-tall fountain is the Angel of Waters. He represents health and peace. Not only is this spot featured in so many of our favorite NYC-based TV and Movies, but in the real world, it is a hub for musicians, artists, and visitors to come and enjoy the calming effect of the spot. Grab a coffee or some lunch and sit under the fountain while people on kayaks go by on the peaceful waters, and maybe catch a bubble artist live in action.
- Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir
The reservoir is a 1.66-mile loop expanding from the East to West side of Manhattan between 86th and 96th Street. One of the most serene places to go for a walk or a run, or just grab a seat and watch the sky reflect off the water. A bit further from campus, but right near many other places to check out as MC students including the Metropolitan Museum of Art which students in NYC can go to for free! A perfect afternoon or evening to spend with your friends after a long day of classes.
Exploring Central Park is one of the best ways to spend a day in the city, and with so many great spots right by campus, we have the benefit of convenience and the joy of spending a lunch break or study break in the city’s most famous green space. Relax, breathe in the air, and enjoy these gems.
