Northeastern has recently released a FAQ document on the details of the fall ‘25 Northeastern NYC Scholars program taking place at Marymount Manhattan College’s campus. Among the details the document contains information on housing, academics, and the matriculation of NU students amongst an incoming MMC cohort.
According to the document roughly 300-350 first year NU students will join MMC students– which will also have a full incoming freshmen body– on campus this fall. In contrast, in the 2024-2025 school year, a total of 1454 students were enrolled at MMC. As a small liberal arts college with a campus that includes only two buildings, many students are questioning where the incoming freshmen student body will be housed and where they will reside on campus. “There is already very limited space in the dormitories, I myself live with five other girls,” Freshman Paige Darby notes, “Are they going to increase the amount of roommates per suite or make an entire new housing arrangement?”
Although the exact details have not been released, what is known is that NU students will be given guaranteed housing; “The New York City Scholars program is a residential program, and it is required that students live in campus-provided housing during the duration of the program” the FAQ sheet states. In contrast, the housing section on Marymount Manhattan’s website writes that “Student housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.”
In relation to academics, NU offers various STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) majors that are not available at MMC. The addition of not-currently-available majors implies the addition of staff to teach necessary courses. The FAQ sheet states that future courses “will be taught by a mix of experienced full-time faculty from MMC and newly hired full-time and part-time faculty.” Recent updates have added that MMC and NU will still be considered separate entities in “partnership” during the upcoming semester; whether or not MMC students will have the ability to take NU taught classes on campus is still not available.
As both MMC students, considering students, and NYC Scholars are continuing to navigate the incoming information, The Monitor is looking for incoming MMC freshmen and incoming NYC Scholars to discuss what information they are being given.
