For this week’s reading, I asked the cards how our lives will change this week. We have just passed the October full moon, or the harvest moon, which is the first full moon following the first day of fall. This year, it is also a supermoon, which means it appears bigger and brighter in the sky and brings heightened emotions as well as amplified energy.
The harvest moon marks a moment of both celebration and reckoning. It’s a time to take stock of what you’ve planted, what you’ve harvested and what still needs to be released. This is the moon that lights the way during the final days of the harvest season and reminds you to set your intentions as we descend into the darker half of the year. It is a call to gather what you’ve grown and let go of what you no longer need to carry into winter.
This moon also falls just two weeks before Samhain, the witch’s new year and the final spoke on the Wheel of the Year. One foot in the harvest, one in the descent. It invites you to release fear and dead weight, and prepare your spirit for transformation.
The card for this week is the Dark Chariot, this represents a zealous focus on material goods and amassing power at the expense of others in your life. This card is asking that you take a moment to check yourself before you get too big for your britches and lose other important aspects in your life.
This is a very poignant card considering the power of the harvest moon. This card wants you to sit down and smell the roses. Consider the important things in life and reflect on the path you are on now.
To make sure you are on the right path, ask yourself two questions: Do I still have time to smell the roses? Am I aware of and considerate to the feelings and needs of those around me?
Alternatively, you may have chosen this card because you are presently being pulled in opposite directions by very different but seemingly equally important aspirations. If so, you need to sacrifice one of them for the moment, so that you can give the other the time and effort it really needs.
Ideally, you need to get the balance right between work and play, with time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Though, at this time in our lives it feels almost impossible, but to keep grounded in reality you need to make time for caring, sharing and hopefully, also give yourself some space to contemplate the deeper meaning of life.
