A neon sign reading, “David’s Cafe” popped up outside Nugent Lounge this month. Inside the Lounge, another neon purple sign appeared on the wall behind the counter. According to Stephen Eichinger, Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, the switch from Starbucks to David’s Cafe was part of a 2023 plan to improve Marymount’s physical spaces alongside the engagement of a new food services vendor.
“The decision to name the cafe was made because MMC leadership saw the opportunity to honor a beloved professor,” said Eichinger, “David’s Cafe is named in honor of Professor David Mold, a longtime and beloved member of the Theatre Arts Department.”
Professor David Mold has been the Assistant Chair of Visual and Performing Arts and Professor of Theatre Arts at MMC for twenty-six years. He directed five recent MMC productions including Blues for Mister Charlie and Myth, Mirth, Music: The Medieval World in Performance in 2018, Pericles in 2015, Stage Door in 2013, and Ruined in 2012. Professor Mold teaches six MMC theatre classes and prepares students for auditions and careers as professional actors.
“MMC is happy to honor Professor David Mold with the naming of David’s Cafe,” said Eichinger, “The cafe is still being managed by our food services vendor, and all the same great products and services are still being offered.”
