Chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re a high school senior on the precipice of graduation. Just a few months left of projects, planning, and prepping until you step into your first year of college—not just any university, but Marymount Manhattan College (MMC). Let The Monitor be the first to say, congratulations! We know what a big deal it is to commit to a school, and we are so excited for all the new faces, minds, and perspectives that will be joining us in the Fall of 2025.
Who we are:
MMC was founded in 1936 by nuns of the Roman Catholic Church. Today, our campus has about 1,400 students. We are located in the Upper East Side, Manhattan, with residential halls in Midtown. MMC is known for its performing arts, but there are multitude of other fields of study from Politics and Human Rights to Biomedical Sciences. Our small student body makes for tight-knit classes and a student-teacher ratio of 11:1.
Our location in the largest city in the United States is a major attraction, and the opportunities offered in a place like New York City are hard to beat. MMC students have interned at New York City Ballet, The Met, the United Nations, and more. In addition, MMC provides a Bedford Hills College Program academic and extracurricular activities for incarcerated individuals at the Bedford Hills correctional facility upstate.
The merger:
Currently, MMC is going through a transitional period. MMC announced on May 28, 2024 that it had agreed to enter Northeastern University’s global university system, pending regulatory approvals. Once the merger is complete, students in good standing will be automatically enrolled at Northeastern University—New York City. Northeastern University—New York City will continue at MMC’s campus on East 71st Street, becoming Northeastern’s fourteenth experiential learning model campus worldwide. State and federal regulatory approvals will determine the ultimate date of completion.
The Monitor is continuing to report on this merger, but please reach out to [email protected] with any additional thoughts or questions regarding the change.
In closing
Enjoy your last few months before college, but we are so excited to have you here. We hope that MMC is all you hope for and we look forward to being a part of your next adventure. MMC is all about finding purpose through creativity and belonging and we can’t wait to see you embody these values.
Hurrah for the Class of 2029—welcome to MMC!
