This week, singer and songwriter Sabrina Carpenter took the stage at Madison Square Garden, with five sold out nights of her “Short n’ Sweet” tour. Carpenter exhibited energetic and entertaining performances. With sparkling bodysuits and dresses, lively backup dancers and a setlist filled with her top hits, Carpenter’s week at Madison Square Garden was one for the books.
Embarking on her first arena tour, Carpenter has had a whirlwind year. At just 26 years old, she released her seventh studio album, “Man’s Best Friend” this year. Last year, she released the album “Short n’ Sweet”, for which she is currently on tour. Her songs focus on her personal experiences, in life, love and the heartbreak that comes with that (and maybe some revenge, as showcased in her song “Taste”). Carpenter’s humorous lyrics like “and we could live so happily if no one knows that you’re with me” showcased in her song “Please Please Please”, make her a popular artist among young people, especially women.
Throughout the stadium, there was no shortage of glittery dresses and skirts, as fans dressed to the nines to show their support for Carpenter. With her signature voluminous, curled hair and shimmering body suits, fans used Carpenter’s look as inspiration for their own concert outfits. Among her many outfit changes, one in particular stood out as she sported a truly New York outfit: a shiny yellow top paired with a matching yellow skirt, designed with black-and-white checker detailing. The look, signature to this night, was an homage to New York City.
In a week of sold out shows in New York, fans flocked to Madison Square Garden to take in the popstar’s eye-catching stage presence and musical creativity. With openers Amber Mark and Olivia Dean, fans were sure to hear many songs they recognized throughout the evening. Carpenter performed her pop hits, such as “Good Graces”, “Busy Woman” and “Manchild”, among others. In the middle of her performance, she took a pause from her peppier songs to perform heartbreak deep-cuts like “Don’t Smile”, “because i liked a boy” and “Coincidence.”
As the concert veered to an end, Carpenter performed an encore, the popular pop sensation “Espresso.” As the ending song played, silver, sparkling confetti rained down on fans, closing out her night 2 performance at Madison Square Garden.
Leaving the venue, fans poured out of the stadium, dropping glitter and confetti as they went. Fans could be seen with their newly purchased tour merch, sporting their new concert t-shirts and sweatshirts over their skirts. On the street, sounds of a speaker playing Carpenter’s hits could be heard, echoing through the city, an end to a memorable night for both fans and Carpenter.
